I saw this on another blog and just had to post it here!
Now before you go drilling holes in your guitar and practicing your “whammy bar face” there are some things to consider first.
Guitar mods: If you have a “hardtail” guitar (ie Gibson LP) and you want to install a FR – DON’T! Any time you change the mass of the guitar you change the tone of the guitar. If you really have to – have a professional do it.
Tuning: Tuning and intonation of a FR (if you’ve never done it before) can be challenging. As well as downright infuriating. I will save the discussion of the process for another post, but in a nutshell anytime you tune one string it will put the others out of tune and only time and a great deal of patience will solve the problem.
Weather conditions: Yes – weather conditions. Too cold and your strings go sharp. Too hot and your flat. What can be done? Not a lot.
Now all this aside I love the FR style bridge, it is just not low maintenance.
